Observation of superdiffusive phonon transport in aligned atomic chains” published in Nature Nanotechnology was selected as a VINSE spotlight publication.

About the author: Lin Yang earned his Ph.D. in Vanderbilt University Mechanical Engineering in May 2019 under the direction of Dr. Deyu Li. Lin studied the transport, conversion, and storage of heat energy from a microscopic perspective, which lays the foundation of developing functional thermal materials and devices for a sustainable future. In recently published work, he experimentally observed one-dimensional phonon induced superdiffusive transport phenomena in aligned atomic chains of ultra-thin NbSe3 nanowires. This unravels a fundamentally new avenue to manipulate phonon transport in order to create a novel type of high thermal conductivity materials. Lin is now a postdoc researcher at Lawrence Berkeley Lab in Dr. Ravi Prasher’s research group.
