VU-WiSE outreach has focused on increasing the community awareness of the contribution of women in scientific research while engaging individuals of all ages in scientific hands-on experience. We have fostered several community collaborations with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters Middle Tennessee (BBBS-MT), High School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt (SSMV), local Girl Scout troops, Adventure Science Center, Room in the Inn, and the Rutherford County school district, and have provided age-appropriate science experiences to each group through the work of our outreach volunteers. These science experiences have included everything from science experiments to short volunteer-taught lessons and have generated an invaluable connection between VU-WiSE and the greater Nashville community. We are always looking for more volunteers to make our presence in the community more impactful!
