Researchers and practitioners from the National Center on Scaling Up Effective Schools are presenting at several upcoming national conferences.
Teacher Leadership Conference
The University of Florida is hosting the International Teacher Leadership Conference on March 2-3, 2017 in Miami, FL. This conference is designed to bring together scholars and practitioners to examine issues around teacher leadership. NCSU has organized two sessions at this conference that reflect our research-practice partnership.
First, we are visiting Flanagan High School, a partner school in Broward County Public Schools, to meet with the leaders of their Personalization for Academic and Socioemotional Learning (PASL) initiative. During this visit, participants will learn about how PASL is enacted in this school and how teacher leaders have worked to co-develop PASL. Brad Fatout, Assistant Principal of Flanagan, and Marisa Cannata, NCSU Director, will lead this visit.
Second, we will have a panel discussion on the development and enactment of teacher leadership in Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD). Mollie Rubin, NCSU Assistant Director, will present empirical research on how the NCSU model has contributed to developing teacher leadership in FWISD. Educators from FWISD, including Rina Nakamoto, Orion Smith, and Michael Calder, will share their experiences enacting and supporting teacher leadership.
Association for Education Finance and Policy Conference
On March 16-18, NCSU researchers will present at the annual conference of the Association for Education Finance and Policy, in Washington, DC.
Mollie Rubin, NCSU Assistant Director, will share what we’ve learned about the process of on-boarding new schools to our network. This research is in collaboration with Stephanie Brown and Ela Joshi. Thursday, March 16, 2:30-4pm.
Rob Meyer will share what we’ve learned about using predictive analytics to increase the number of students taking Advanced Placement courses. This research is in collaboration with Curtis Jones. Friday, March 17, 10: 45am-12:15pm.
Marisa Cannata, NCSU Director, will share our main findings on how the NCSU model of (1) co-constructing the design based on practices shown to be effective in the district; (2) engaging in continuous improvement; and (3) using a research-practice partnership contribute to successful scaling up of effective practices. This research is in collaboration with Stacey Rutledge, Chris Redding, Mollie Rubin, and Thomas Smith. Saturday, March 18, 10:30-11:45am.
Carnegie Summit
On March 27-29, NCSU researchers will present at the annual Summit on Improvement in Education, hosted by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Marisa Cannata, NCSU Director, and Ela Joshi, graduate assistant, will share what we’ve learned about how ideas spread within a Networked Improvement Community. This research is in collaboration with Stacey Rutledge, Chris Redding, and Stephanie Brown. Tuesday, March 28, 10:45 am-12pm.
Marisa Cannata, NCSU Director, and Stacey Rutledge, i3 Principal Investigator, will present a poster that shares our main findings on how the NCSU model of (1) co-constructing the design based on practices shown to be effective in the district; (2) engaging in continuous improvement; and (3) using a research-practice partnership contribute to successful scaling up of effective practices.
