Research

My interdisciplinary research is driven by the core belief that partnerships between families and schools are critical to student success. Through my research, I amcommitted to increasing the number of first-generation students of color, particularly Latinx students, matriculating to and graduating from institutions of higher education. In my scholarship, I connect K-12 family engagement research with the existing literature on higher education access and success. I use qualitative research methods—particularly in-depth interviewing and participant observation—to more deeply understand the relationship(s) between Latinx families and higher education. My research and scholarship is informed by my identity as a woman of color, a Latina, and a daughter of Mexican immigrants.
