Presentation Title: “January was 36 weeks long”: historiality of becoming with the nonhuman in Science Teacher Circles
Presentation Abstract: In this presentation, I offer an exploration of video data from an exploratory science experiment to theorize time as an operator in learning. The participants are Nashville area secondary science teachers working together in Science Teacher Circles, which are part of the Teacher Learning for Expansive Sensemaking in science research project. The open-ended nature of the teachers’ exploration of scientific phenomena with various aspects of the nonhuman (instruments, materials, and space) offers a glimpse into the materiality of history and power within learning environments – a process I conceptualize as historiality of becoming.
