Brazil Week 2012

Nashville
April 18, 2014

Vanderbilt University celebrated its annual Brazil Week with a variety of activities across campus.  The events included films, poetry, capoeira, art, lectures, and futebol.  The week culminated at the Scarritt-Bennett Center with food and music at “Taste of Brazil” on Brazilian Independence Day.  As part of the 2012 celebration, Vanderbilt hosted an interdisciplinary group of faculty from the University of São Paulo strengthening their research collaborations with Brazil.

During Brazil Week, Conversations/Conversas members Ana Maria Tavares and Mario Ramiro, along with Bruno Schultze, conducted studio visits at the Department of Art.  Mario Ramiro gave a public lecture entitled “Collective Practice in Contemporary Brazilian Art” and Ana Maria Tavares introduced the film Sobras em Obras, a film by Michel Favre.  USP and Vanderbilt members also had time to collaborate on upcoming projects.
