International Education Week (IEW) will take place from November 13-17th this year and will feature a collaborative calendar of diverse programs across campus. A joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, IEW is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide, while seeking to advance cultural understanding and protect cultural heritage. This year the theme for International Education Week is Getting to Know Your Neighbors which alludes to the importance of getting to know people of diverse backgrounds and identities not just in our immediate space, but also in our neighboring cities and countries. Our official social media tag for this week is #Iamyourneighbor
At Vanderbilt University, IEW is coordinated by ISSS and the diverse staff on the IEW planning committee who represent some of the various departments and offices around campus including:
-Global Education Office
-Inclusion Initiatives and Cultural Competence
-Project Safe
-Center for Student Wellbeing
-Women’s Center
-The Law School
-Humphrey Fellows
and more
In addition to the events hosted by campus offices, we welcome any events submitted by Vanderbilt staff, faculty, students and student organizations, and community organizations that promote international education and exchange and espouse our theme for this year. Examples of program ideas can be presentations, performances, exhibits, socials and more!
If you are ready to submit your event for IEW2017, please submit this form for review. The deadline for all submissions is October 25th. Upon successful review, your event will be added to the week of programs.
