The Chronicle for Higher Education – Covering the topics of vital importance to academics, The Chronicle keeps pace with the academic community to capture what is most important to its readers. You can create a free account and get daily or weekly news via email.

Versatile Ph.D – This is a community for advice and support around non-academic careers. As a Vanderbilt student, you get free access to the premium content section on the site.

Grad Resources – Grad Resources is a non-profit organization based in Dallas, Texas that serves the practical and emotional needs of graduate students on several university campuses across the United States. Grad Resources offers grad students free assistance and support via grad student orientation programs, seminars, support groups, online resources and several helpful articles.

PhD Comics – Piled Higher and Deeper: A Grad Student Comic Strip

Inside Higher Ed – Inside Higher Ed is an online source for news, opinion and jobs for all of higher education. The site features news and feature stories, daily commentary, practical career columns, and a suite of tools to help higher education professionals get jobs and colleges identify and hire employees.

GradShare – A graduate student community created as a a free service by ProQuest. Contains peer Q&A section as well as expert advice on topics including researching, thesis/dissertation, job search, teaching and more.

The Thesis Whisperer – The Thesis Whisperer is a  blog newspaper dedicated to the topic of doing a thesis and is edited by Dr Inger Mewburn, Director of research training at the Australian National University. Posts are no longer than 1000 words.
