Socio-Cultural Influences on Girls Education in Benin
Girls in Benin have a school completion rate that is lower than boys although school is free for everyone. In the rural areas, some people do not perceive the importance of girls’ education because girls are expected to be saved for marriage and raising a family, which doesn’t require a high school diploma. A general awareness is needed to address this gender discrimination and give girls their full rights to education.
