Summary

My work in clinical decision support has focused on two application areas of computer interpretable guidelines: plan-based and state-based (i.e. reactive) patient management systems. The later work focused on creating a prototype system for the detection and management of sepsis in a multiple intensive care unit (ICU) setting. The former work targeted the creation of a tool suite to enable longitudinal cancer treatment plan management with the intent of standardizing care, improving safety and efficiency, and providing agility and scaling in terms of knowledge representation and dissemination. Using formal methods and highly motivated interdisciplinary teams, we have delivered dedicated clinical applications through which we increased compliance to best practice guidelines.
