Teaching
I am avidly interested in teaching. I use the same research techniques to solve teaching problems that I do to solve geologic problems. I use evidence-based methods in my classrooms and am always striving to find new ways to improve student engagement and learning. See a profile on my teaching at the Vanderbilt Center for Teaching website here.
I am particularly interested in the following topics:
- Equity and Inclusion in STEM courses
- Ungrading
- Teaching Outside the Classroom and best practices in mentoring Undergraduate Research
- Evaluations of Teaching
- Student Motivation
- Academic Inquiry
- Peer to Peer Instruction and Flipped Classrooms
I currently teach the following courses:
CSET 3310: Geological Filmmaking: Understanding Deep Time through Cinema
EES 4891: Community Engaged Science
EES 1001-02: Observing the Earth
