NCPI research affiliate Brian A. Jacob recently released results of a study that found a policy to dismiss probationary teachers reduced teacher absence during the school year. The policy, implemented in Chicago public schools, gave principals more flexibility to dismiss non-tenured teachers and led to a reduction in teacher absences on an annual basis of about 10 percent.

Teacher attendance is often an overlooked aspect of performance but one that might have a correlation to student achievement.
