Nashville has a reputation for music, entertainment and songwriting. This has earned the city its nick name “Music City“. However, even before music became center-stage, Nashville became known as the “Athens of the South” for its numerous institutions of higher education.

Vanderbilt University is the most famous of these institutions but it has outstanding company with Belmont University, Fisk University, Lipscomb University, Meharry Medical College and 12 additional institutions.
