As part of our “Students as Producers” theme last year, the Center for Teaching brought attention to teaching strategies that engage students not only as consumers of information, but also as producers of knowledge. We focused largely on the context of credit-bearing courses because we knew Vanderbilt already had a robust set of out-of-class opportunities for students to be producers of knowledge, particularly through its various undergraduate research programs.
Research produced as part of those programs over the last year will be on display Monday, September 1st, during the Vanderbilt Undergraduate Research Fair, held in the Student Life Center from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Office of Honor Scholarships, the Vanderbilt Undergraduate Summer Research Program, and the Provost’s Office. Just as the Center for Teaching’s Celebration of Learning in April showcased original student projects from all four undergraduate schools, the Undergraduate Research Fair will feature students from across campus sharing their research, independent scholarship, and creative activity.
If you would like a picture of deep, engaged student learning across Vanderbilt, come see the students sharing their work at the Student Life Center Monday afternoon! More information on the research fair is available here.
