NCPI and CALDER cosponsor “NCLB: Emerging Findings” conference

On August 12, 2009 NCPI and the National Center for Analysis of Longitudinal Data in Education Research (CALDER) held a research conference entitled “NCLB: Emerging Findings”. The conference brought together more than 20 policy analysts and prominent scholars from the education policy research field – including NCPI affiliates such as Dale Ballou and Matt Springer – to present and debate emerging findings on the merits and weaknesses of NCLB. Among the issues discussed were state implementation of the federal education law and its impact on student achievement, teacher distribution and quality, the teaching of subjects such as social studies not covered in the law, and accountability and testing. The conference was attended by more than 160 state and national education officials, education researchers and policymakers, school administrators, education advocates, and journalists.

The conference was featured in recent articles in Education Week and the Medill Reports.
