A variable star is a star whose brightness changes over time. From supernovas to stars with exoplanets, variable stars are of high interest to astronomical research, and the American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to their study. From their website, the AAVSO’s mission is “to enable anyone, anywhere, to participate in scientific discovery through variable star astronomy”.
