Talks at the Materials Research Society Spring Meeting!
The group all attended the Spring Meeting of the Materials Research Society in Phoenix, AZ. Ryan discussed his work in epsilon-near-zero – surface plasmon polariton hybridization using cadmium oxide bilayers, Joseph discussed his efforts in photothermal induced resonance (PTIR) measurements of hexagonal boron nitride nanostructures (recently published in Nano Letters). Tom had a super busy week. He was already scheduled to give two talks, one on the use of 2D materials for infrared to terahertz emitters and another on the use of attenuated total reflection for measuring the dielectric function and polariton dispersion in 2D materials. However, Alex Giles, my colleague from NRL had to cancel his talk at the last min, so Tom gave his as well! That was on the isotopic enrichment of hBN for improving phonon lifetimes. I spent the week organizing the symposium and attending MRS-related meetings.
We did find the time to have a group outing, waking up early for a group hike up Mount Camelback on Tuesday morning! Even had the pleasure of a long-time collaborator, Thomas Taubner of RWTH Aachen (Germany) join us!
