About Me :)

“Cosmology brings us face to face with the deepest mysteries, questions that were once treated only in religion and myth.”

-Carl Sagan,
Cosmos: A Personal Voyage (1980)

My name is Cortneia, and I am from Phoenix, Arizona! My major is Physics with a concentration in Astronomy. I have always loved space (I even wrote my college essay on it), and I really look forward to this class and all the things I will learn in it!

Setting up a telescope in the Winter (Source: My Dad)

Hello there, my name is Noah Herrero. I’m a freshman planning on majoring in Physics with a minor in Astronomy. The image above is from two years ago where my dad and I went out to Pennsylvania in attempt to observe the Great Conjunction. I have some experience self studying astronomy for Science Olympiad and have enjoyed every second of it. However, most of the stuff I have read revolves around celestial objects outside the solar system, so I’m very excited for what this class has to offer.

The above picture was taken by me during my time at Big Bend National Park in June 2021

Hello and welcome to my blog, which I’ve created to discuss some of the topics of my Astronomy class. I’m fairly new to Astronomy, but am definitely interested in all of the ideals it explores. For now, I’d like to share with you why I’ve added a photo of Big Bend National Park. When I think about the stars, the very idea of the night sky is tied to this place for me. I’ve been year after year and have to say the most spectacular night skies I’ve seen were definitley viewed from Big Bend. This website includes some of the best images: Big Bend Guide to The Stars.

Sydney’s Introduction

Hello ASTR 2110! My name is Sydney and I am a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering. The picture I included was actually taken by me at the St. Louis Air Show in 2019 where I rode along with the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team. If you check out their website, you can find some other really cool pictures.

It was quite difficult to take this picture because if you notice the ground is at the top of the image meaning I was inverted and experiencing a few Gs while trying to hold my phone up to take a picture. It was well worth it because this is still my favorite picture!

My Favorite Restaurant

Gus’s Fried Chicken is my favorite place to eat. It is one of the most popular restaurants in my hometown of Memphis, and this picture was taken by the Crain’s Detroit News company during a recent franchise expansion into the city of Detroit.

Hello! I’m Alice, and this photo is taken in the Smoky Mountains over Fall Break! I love spending time outdoors and hiking, and fortunately was able to do a lot of it over the course of this past fall semester.
