NCPI Director Matthew G Springer was quoted in an Education Week article about a newly launched merit-pay plan for New York City teachers. The plan would award cash bonuses to teachers who raise test scores at the city’s high-need schools. Professor Springer said it was “really important” that city, school, and union officials worked collaboratively in developing the plan. He also emphasized the need for a rigorous evaluation of a program of that magnitude.
