Design Constraints

Design Constraints

When it came to designing the device, the team had to work within numerous design constraints. These constraints are listed below.

  • Affordability – a unit price of under $40 per sensor node has been established by obtaining sensor prices from bulk retailers Alibaba and Aliexpress
  • Easy Installation and Maintenance – the device should be easy to install and maintain
  • Easily Replicable – the device should have the ability to be mass produced
  • Ethically Responsible – the device should track humans in a way that doesn’t make them uncomfortable or infringes upon their freedom
  • Minimally Invasive – the device should not intrude on the environment or wildlife
  • Safety – the device should not cause harm to wildlife or humans in contact with it
  • Sustainability – the device must leave the lowest carbon footprint possible
  • Weather – the device should be durable enough to withstand harsh weather and remain in the elements for an extended period of time
  • Working Sensor – the sensor must reliably analyze environmental data and human detection data
